About
From the very beginning, I must have been a trial to my poor parents. I scribbled on walls and painted Vaseline "artworks" into the shag carpet with Q-Tips almost before I could walk. (Yes, it’s true.) As I grew up - well, as I got taller - I gradually scribbled on paper instead of walls and painted on poster board instead of carpet. At last, through much sweat and blood on the part of my laboring parents, I dutifully followed the rather bland course of life events - first schooling (alas, not art) then jobs - which for many long years nearly snuffed out any and all scribbling altogether.
But, one day, a handsome prince found me wasting away in my toils, and he fell in love. (I did too, of course, because that's what damsels in distress do when they meet handsome princes.) In true fairy tale fashion, this handsome prince married me and carried me off to his castle in the sky where he showers me with art supplies and where I scribble and paint all day long! (Okay, maybe more like a second floor apartment and not all day long, but as much as I can, at any rate. ;) )
As romantic as it would be to say that my prince is the "him" in Him Alone Art, he actually isn't, which you may have figured out already if you've read my mission statement. What actually started me on this course was a combination of a belief in the importance of imagery in our lives and of a love of God Who is the essence of everything truly wonderful and beautiful. He is the Him Who stands alone. He's the masteriest art master of them all. Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Monet, Van Gogh - they were all copyists, doing their best to capture the unutterable loveliness they saw in the masterful artwork of creation around them.
The way I see it, what we surround ourselves with visually impacts how we feel, and, by extension, our outlook on life. So, I try to paint simple pleasures, everyday wonders, peacefulness, love, and joy. I want to fill my visual life with ideas and pictures that make me happy and that remind me of things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and good. My hope is that my endeavors can help other people to do the same.
